Rea - EPK
Rea is a jazz/folk singer- songwriter, guitarist, producer and visual artist from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Rea released her fourth album, Safe and Sound, in November 2019. This latest album showcases her growth and development as a songwriter and performer. Rooted in life’s experiences, the album focuses on mental health issues and relationships.
Rea's lyrics have been described as honest, quirky, and well-crafted, and her captivating, playful melodies are at once thoughtful and memorable. Rea stirs up some sophisticated harmonies and simply sweet melodies into an appealing alternative palette. She writes jazzy indie pop songs and performs them with a relaxed, matter-of-fact style.
Rea also performs her own arrangements of popular covers from the ‘70s to the ‘90s including works by Norah Jones, The Human League, Fleetwood Mac, Blondie and The Cranberries.
Rea released her first EP album, Green Popsicle, in 2012, and her second EP album, Favourite Company, in 2014. Both EPs feature Rea’s original compositions and are available on iTunes and all streaming websites. With each song, Rea’s pure and versatile voice gently lures the listener to move with the beat and sing along.
Rea also released a self-produced electronic pop EP in 2018 entitled Call Me.
Rea graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA in May 2019 with a Professional Music Diploma in Songwriting. In addition to being awarded an entrance scholarship to Berklee, Rea was awarded a songwriting achievement scholarship in her final year of studies. Also while studying in Boston, Rea founded the band “Rea and the Tugboats” which was a frequent performer at various venues around Boston, including “Summer in the City Boston.” Since Rea’s return to St. John’s, she often performs with three talented local musicians in a group called “Rea and Friends.”
Rea also has a fine arts degree (visual arts) from Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), and uses this talent to design her albums and all of her promotional materials. Upon graduation from MUN, Rea worked as the curator at the Peter Lewis Art Gallery in St. John’s, and also did some commissioned pieces as well as exhibited her own artwork. During this time, Rea was a regular performer at St. John’s cafes and bars and at Rocket Bakery where she built a loyal fan base. Rea was also a featured performer at a number of charity events in and around St. John’s.
Most recently, Rea was featured on CBC radio’s “First Listen” and performed live on “On the Go.” Rea was also featured on K-Rock’s, “Under the Influence”, and has been interviewed on CHMR on a number of occasions.
